Davao City, January 10, 2009.  With cousin Juan Paolo Cansino, the Dizon siblings, Steffi, Andrei and Jenni, captured titles at the close of the rain-delayed Pahalipay ni Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte-Vice Mayor Sara Duterte Age-Group Tennis Championships last December 20-23, 2008 at the Ecoland Phase 4 and Davao Capitol Tennis Club Courts in Davao City.

The eldest of the Dizon brood, Steffi Marie, a varsity player at the De La Salle University (DLSU) spanked Kristina Mae Colmenares of Banaybanay Davao Oriental, 7-6, 6-1 in their girls 18/under final.

Her brother Andrei, meanwhile, whipped fellow Dabawenyo Fritz Domingo, 6-1, 6-1 in boys 18/ under while youngest sibling Jenni turned back Banaybanay bet Twinnie Joy Delfinan 6-2, 6-1 in the girls 12/ under.

Juan Paolo Cansino, for his part, crushed Kurt Gerapusco 6-0,6-4 in the boys 14/under category of the PHILTA-sanctioned event presented by Mayor Duterte and Vice-Mayor Duterte in coordination with the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office.

The Boys 16/Under title went to Andre Grimmick Banate of Davao City, No. 6 in the latest PHILTA rankings, who defeated Jeco Lapiz of Davao Oriental.  In the Girls' 16/Under age group, Polomolok, South Cotabato’s Cindy Gerapusco prevailed with a 6-4, 5-7, 13-11 win over Digos City’s Eloisa Collo.

The Girls' 14/Under title went to Lenelyn Milo of the Island Garden City of Samal crushed Genevieve Caorte of Davao City 6-2, 6-3.

In the Boys' 12/Under, Davao's Jan Jerrick Accion beat Banaybanay, Davao Oriental's Jeleardo Amazona 6-2, 5-7, 10-4.

In the 10/Under Unisex category, Jerrick Delos Santos of General Santos City survived with a victory over Milo Malaysia contender Christian Fel Lopez of Island Garden City of Samal.

Philippine Tennis Association Regional Vice-President Juanito "Titong" Cansino Jr. and Gen. Paulino Mendez, Eco 4 Tennis Club Vice-President and chief of Mayor Duterte’s security, awarded the prizes to the winners from the 120 entries which flocked to the tournament because of its free registration.

Cansino announced tournaments coming in 2009 under Mayor Rody Duterte—the Araw ng Dabaw in March and the Kadayawan Festival in August. PHILTA points will also be awarded to the winners which will reflect in the PHILTA Junior Rankings.
