January 13, 2009.  Five Filipino age-group standouts made it to the winning column in the recent 20th Andrada Cup Age Group Tennis Championships held January 5-10, 2009 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center (RMTC) in Manila.

In the year-opener, the strong boys' complement included Leander Lazaro who prevailed in straight sets against Japan's Kenta Hashimoto in the 16/Under. Jurence Mendoza claimed the 14/Under crown, while ceding only a game to opponent Hans Asistio.  Vince Mark Tabo-tabo won over Christian San Andres in the 12/Under category, while Alberto Lim triumphed over Mimo Santacruz in the 10/Under Unisex group.

In the 16/Under Girls, Marinel Rudas showed that she was of sterner stuff as she gave up only one game in thrashing Ruiko Higashinaka of Japan.

Three visiting tennisters, however, won their respective categories.  Michael James Hukwo of Peru and China, who trumped Takehiro Uragami of Japan, won the 18/Under Boys.  Momoko Tanaka claimed the 18/U girls championship in an all-Japan final with Ai Usami.  The 14/Under Girls diadem was annexed by Shao Ye-Jia of China over Marian Jade Capadocia.

International Tennis Federation (ITF) referee for the event was Maximiano Leonora.  The Andrada Cup received support from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) as well as from the manufacturer of Wilson balls.
